Welcome to the page where you will learn all about my characters that help me learn Latin. The characters live in Ancient Rome, so there are temples to certain gods (like Mercury, Juno, Diana, etc.). There may be appearances of those gods from time to time, even if the characters don't know about it when it happens. But mostly, the stories veer towards historical fiction, even if some other genres do come in here and there (like an epic poem or a murder mystery).
Athena and Tiresias's familia
Athena and Tiresias, unlike everyone else around them, are actually Greek not Roman, but they live in ancient Rome and have many adventures (and misadventures) there...
Athena
Soror ut Tiresias, aetate XV.
Name: Athena*
Likes: her frater, Tiresias (he is her partner in crime), Minerva (Athena) the goddess she longs to worship once she gets old enough to become a priestess, telling fabulas with her frater.
Dislikes: someone saying she can't be a priestess, when someone is rude to (or hurts) Tiresias, having anyone tell her or her frater that they are weak.
Goal: to become a priestess to Minerva.
*her namesake is the Greek goddess, Athena of wisdom, war, and crafts.
Tiresias
frater ut Athena, aetate XIII. Tiresias habet ruber capilus.
Name: Tiresias**
Likes: his soror, Athena, the gods, Greek and Roman mythology (though he doesn't consider it mythology), telling fabulas with his soror.
Dislikes: being teased, being told he is weak, someone hurting his soror.
Goal: to become a magister.
**His namesake is a Greek prophet, who was cursed by Hera to be a woman for seven years. This was punishment for hitting two mating snakes. Tiresias the prophet was turned back into a man or stayed a woman after seven years depending on the version. He also appears in Homer's Odyssey, and aids Odysseus (he isn't a woman at that time). Besides being the name of a mythical Greek prophet, Tiresias's name also means "omen" or "portent."
Amicis
Pyrrha
Phyrrha quod ancilla, aetate XIV.
Name: Pyrrha***
Likes: Tiresias et Athena, roaming the forest, wildlife, animals.
Dislikes: being an ancilla (even though she can't really say that), the possibility of getting separated from her pater, being able to be sold as a present to someone.
Goal: to be freed with her pater.
***Her namesake is Pandora's and Epimetheus's daughter, who was responsible for bringing a new race of women to life after all humans on Earth had been drowned by Zeus (Jupiter). In addition to Pyrrha's name originating from mythology, her name also means "flame colored" or "red fire."
Aquila's familia
Aquila is from a much more wealthy familia than Tiresias or Athena, but that doesn't mean she doesn't have problems of her own...
Aquila
Soror ut Diana et Isaac, aetate XVI.
Name: Aquila
Likes: playing games with her soror, thinking up clever plans.
Dislikes: being forced into something, when her plans don't work.
Goal: to not get married.
Diana
Soror ut Aquila et Isaac, aetate VII.
Name: Diana****
Likes: her mater, pater, soror and frater, helping her soror.
Dislikes: Having her frater Isaac get in the way of their plans,
being told what to do.
****her namesake is the Roman version of Artemis goddess of the hunt. In addition to having her name be the same name as the Roman goddess, her name also means "heavenly divine."
Isaac
Frater ut Aquila et Diana, aetate XIV.
Name: Isaac
Likes: his soror, Aquila and his little soror, Diana (even though he is terrible at showing it), having plans in order (he got that from his pater).
Dislikes: rainy days, the idea of becoming pauper, not getting married and becoming not a paterfamilia.
Goal: to become the paterfamilia after his pater.
Luciana

Name: Luciana
job: Potter
Likes: her liberi, doing work with her hands, working by herself.
Dislikes: Having her liberi misbehave, breaking her pots and having to start all over again.

Name: Augusto
plans: to get his filia married to a handsome vir (who might be rich).
Likes: having his familia's domo in a calm order, being organized, having everything planned out.
Dislikes: having the domo be messy, Aquila (his filia) going against his plans.
Perseus
The famalia's canis. Who believes he is really Perseus and was
cursed by a deus or dea to be a canis.
The Deorum
The gods do enjoy having a impact on the plot, whether it be through dreams, or simply walking up to the main characters as an old man or woman and asking for help.
